CAHL Cup Championship:
Tornadoes vs.
Ice Storm on Friday, August 31

The
Ice Storm defeated the
Tornadoes on Friday evening to
capture the CAHL Cup Championship. The Tornadoes were awarded
the CAHL 2007 Silver Medals.
The CAHL 2007 Playoff
MVP Trophy was presented to
Patrick Lauzon who had four goals and an assist on the night
to finish the playoffs with an amazing total of 20 points for
the Ice Storm.
Ice Storm forwards
Jason Petelski and
Nick Oriold combined for
an colossal sum of seven assists in the match.
Petelski and
Oriold racked up a total
of 11 points apiece in the post season. The CAHL 2006-2007 Top
Defenceman Trophy winner Martin Robichaud
was in his top flight form as both he and fellow blue liner
Kyle Myden fired in a pair
of goals.
Shaughn McAuliffe
set up a goal and also hit the back of the net for the Ice Storm
while
Brian Sawchuk
contributed an assist.
Ice Storm goalie
Mark Cole made some nice
stops through the three periods en route to the CAHL Cup
Championship victory.
Line mates
Kenton Lefthand and
Logan Dixon combined for
three goals as
Lefthand had a pair
of scores in the opening period while
Dixon rifled in the puck
during the last period.
Stan Mazursky notched
an assist on
Kenton Lefthand's
second goal of the contest.
Brad MacDonald scored
for the Tornadoes as well with a goal at the 9:34 mark of the
third frame. Seven minutes later team mate
Ryan
Ewasiuk
made a dazzling forehand to backhand deke to score the final
goal of the match.
Goaltender
Rob O'Donnell denied
some big chances from the Ice Storm especially his awesome glove
grab on short range shot during the third period.

Gladiators on Thursday night's playoff contest.
Player of the game
Patrick Lauzon had an
unbelievable 15 point night for the Ice Storm.
Ice Storm
Nick Oriold notched a
total of eight points while
Jason Petelski had
seven points. Team mate
Shaughn McAuliffe
had five points as Kyle Myden
and
Mike Cook each contributed
four points. Defenceman Martin Robichaud
tallied three points.
Hinrich Finck scored a
goal and
Justin Heffner
collected an assist.
Goaltender
Mark Cole made a memorable
great glove grab during the final period in the playoff win.
Zine Hussein was the
Gladiators player of the game as he fired in a pair of goals
which included an awesome top corner goal in the middle period.
Hussein also had an
assist for a great three point match.
Gladiator
Mike
Schiebelbein scored a goal and an assist for a big two point
showing.
Sid Abdallah finished
with a pair of points as well as he set up a couple of goals.
Adel Fares and
Nazieh Hammoud each
hit the back of the net once while
Dylan Wiebe contributed
an assist for the Gladiators.
The Gladiators goaltender
Lino Martino denied 40
chances from the Ice Storm as he faced an abounding number of
scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Player of the game
Graeme Kozin buried
two
pucks and set up a pair of his team mates to propel the
Blades of Steel to a victory
over the
Ice Storm.
Fellow Blades of Steel
Shawn Gallahger
played a big part in the triumph as well as he launched in a
couple of goals.
Adam Snelling and
Brad Roy both had
great three point results for the Blades of Steel.
Dan Pietrzak,
James Werner, and
Sheldon Harris
each claimed two big points apiece.
Paul Reardigan
contributed an assist on the night.
Blades of Steel forward
Trevor Reynolds
scored great two on one goal after receiving a perfect feed from
Jeremy Raymaker early
in the second period. Goaltender
Jennifer Lynn
Hanby only permitted a
couple pucks to get past her for the win.
The Ice Storm offence featured their long range heavy artillery
as the player of the game
Shaughn McAuliffe
and the CAHL 2006-2007 Top Defenceman Trophy winner
Martin Robichaud
unleashed their cannon like slap shots to score the goals for
their team. Nick Oriold
and
Mike Cook provided the
assists.
Ice Storm goaltender Mark Cole
denied 28 shots which included a breakaway in each of the first
two periods and even a two man breakaway in the final period.

Ice Storm vs.
Extreme on Tuesday, August 14
The Tuesday night
match up between the Ice Storm and
Extreme was an offensive showcase as each team featured a
five goal scorer while the teams combined for an incredible
total of 25 scores on the night.
The
Extreme eventually pulled away with the win with the help of
their player of the game
Chad Bassen who used his
deadly speed to score four goals and four assists for a total of
eight points.
Dallas Bassen was the
Extreme five goal marksman who also collected a pair of assists
for a seven point match. His first goal of the night was the
most memorable as his bullet like shot left a mark of undeniable
accuracy as the puck became lodged in the mesh right at the top
corner of the goal net.
Seven other Extreme players had multi-point efforts.
Brad Kerr notched five
points;
Kris Pickering and
Mitch Brodie both had four
points. Leading overall scorer
David Shierman and
Todd Bassen each tallied
three points while
Danny James and
Rance Goulter picked up
two points apiece.
Goaltender
Ian Brunton made numerous
big stops such as his two excellent breakaway saves on the Ice
Storm's five goal man Chris Sawchuk.
Player of the game
Chris Sawchuk not only
fired in five goals, he also set up a couple of his team mates
as well for a sum of seven points.
Patrick Lauzon was up
next with a four point night.
Mike Cook pocketed three
points while
Martin Robichaud and
Shaughn McAuliffe
each hit the back of the mesh once.
After the perfect top corner shot from the Extreme player
Dallas Bassen during the
first period
Nick Oriold was not going
to let the Ice Storm be outdone in the accuracy department and
rifled in a virtually unstoppable top shelf laser beam of his
own in the middle period.
Ice Storm Goalie
Mark Cole contributed an
assist and turned aside 27 shots which included a great pair of
breakaway stops against the dangerous eight point scorer
Chad Bassen.

Sharpshooter
Eric Havinga seized the
puck from midair, dropped it by the blade of his stick blade,
and with a quick snap of his wrists scored his hat trick goal of
the night. Player of the game
Eric Havinga accounted for
all of the
Rockets goals as his team
and the
Ice Storm battled to a hard fought
3-3 deadlock on Wednesday
night.
Eric Havinga's line mates
Mike Parton and
Jordan Pinkster
combined for three big assists with
Parton helping twice and
Pinkster setting up
one.
Tim Ryskamp also
contributed an assist.
Rockets goaltender
Alex Nutma made a fine glove
grab on a heavy duty slap shot early in the game and a dynamite
blocker save on a two on one break during the closing period to
cap off another strong showing which kept him number one overall
in the goalie chase.
The Ice Storm player of the game
Chris Sawchuk blasted in
two goals to preserve his virtual goal per game pace as he now
has eight scores in just nine outings.
Leading team scorer Patrick Lauzon
provided
the all important third and game tying goal for the Ice Storm
early in the third frame. Joe Sims,
Martin Robichaud, and
Mike Cook provided the
assists in the contest.
The shorthanded
Rockets barged in for a breakaway during the initial period
however the Ice Storm's final line of defence was up to the
challenge and Mark Cole made
a towering pad save to fend off the precious scoring chance. Mark Cole
finished with 19 stops in the match.

Ice Storm on Monday, July 30
Carlo DeLuca was the
Ice Storm player of the game as he
had another strong defensive showing from the back end to help
energize his team to a victory against the
Tornadoes.
Patrick Lauzon and
Nick Oriold guided the
potent Ice Storm offence with four points apiece.
Mike Cook and
Brett Watts both had three
point nights.
Shaughn McAuliffe
fired in a pair of goals while
Paul Bergen scored once.
Ice Storm goalie
Mark Cole turned aside 16
shots for the shutout win.
The 2005-2006 CAHL Cup Champion and Gold Medal winner
Joe Nitychoruk had a
strong performance for the Tornadoes and picked up the player of
the game honours for his team.
Rob O'Donnell made some
good stops as he denied 25 pucks on the night for the Tornadoes.

Ice
Storm goal
scoring specialist
Patrick Lauzon advanced
his team to a victory against the
Gladiators with a cyclopean eight point player of the game
performance.
The Ice Storm had towering efforts from numerous other players
as well such as
Nick Oriold who had an
exceptional nine points and
Jason Petelski who
collected an awesome seven points.
Shaughn McAuliffe,
Chris Sawchuk,
and
Kyle Myden all had great
five point games while
Mike Cook and
Martin Robichaud
contributed four and three assists respectively.
Ice Storm Brian
Sawchuk also collected an assist and between the pipes goalie
Mark Cole made some good
stops for the win.
Nazieh Hammoud was
the Gladiators player of the game for the second time in the
past three matches as he had a great two goal and one assist
showing. Team mate
Sid Abdallah also
picked up three big points with a goal and a pair of helpers.
In the final period Gladiator
Sam Fares went in on
breakaway and scored a fantastic goal on a shot after a 360
degree full spin move.
Adel Fares scored for the
Gladiators with a perfectly placed wrist shot in the initial
period and also notched an assist in the second frame.
Samir Abdallah and
Mike
Schiebelbein each
had a goal and an assist as well.
Fellow Gladiator
Brian McKenzie
contributed a pair of assists while
Dylan Wiebe and
Shane Graham collected
one helper apiece.
Gladiators goaltender
Lino Martino made a
great glove save on a short range backhand shot in the first
frame and stopped a clear cut breakaway opportunity in the
middle period.
Martino blocked a total
of 33 shots and also assisted on
Sam Fares's breakaway
goal.

Ice Storm vs.
Rockets on Wednesday, July 18

Scott Bouwman collected
his third hat trick of the season to energize the
Rockets to a win against the
Ice Storm on Wednesday night. With
another great effort
Bouwman continues to be
among the upper echelon of scorers as he sits fourth overall in
the scoring race.
Rocket
Scott Bergen netted the
game winning goal and added three assists for an awesome four
point match.
At the 5:14 mark of the second period
Cody Feenstra went in all
alone on a breakaway and made a beauty forehand to backhand drag
deke to ignite the Rockets fans into a frenzy as he collected
his fifth goal in just seven games.
Feenstra also notched a
pair of assists for a total of three points.
The CAHL 2006-2007 Playoff MVP Trophy winner
Eric Havinga fired in a
big pair of goals for the Rockets.
Mike Parton made a great pass to
set up one of Eric Havinga's
goals on a two on one break and also scored one himself for a
two point night. Point per game defenceman
Jason Upton also scored.
Rocket
Tim Ryskamp contributed a
couple of assists and now has seven helpers in just five games.
Team mates
Jordan Pinkster,
Kurt Bransma,
and
Steven Havinga each
picked up a single assist.
The Rockets goalie
Alex Nutma made a great save
on a breakaway in the middle frame and remains second overall
among goalie leaders for goals against average.
Nutma now carries a .902
save percentage over his last two games with 46 saves on 51
shots.
With a goal in the first period
Patrick Lauzon moved up
to tie
Mike Cook for the most
points on the Ice Storm. However
Lauzon sits first in
team scoring as he holds the tie breaking edge with more goals.
Ice Storm
Shaughn McAuliffe
scored a goal immediately after a face off in the final period
to continue his blazing pace with nine goals in just his last
four games.
Joe Sims and
Martin Robichaud
contributed an assist apiece for the Ice Storm offence.
Goaltender
Mark Cole faced 35 pucks
through the three periods and was the Ice Storm player of the
game as he made numerous big stops especially his tremendous pad
save on a clear cut shorthanded breakaway chance in the third
period.

Snipers vs.
Ice Storm on Tuesday, July 10

Goaltender
Josh Wildey stopped 46 of
the 49 shots fired his way for a superb .939 save percentage to
lead the
Snipers to a close 4-3
victory against the
Ice Storm on Tuesday night.
A critical moment
occurred in the final period when
Wildey stopped what
appeared to be an almost certain goal as a perfect feed from
behind his net went out in front to set up a one timed point blank
shot. That save preserved the 4-3 score for his team.
Jamie Sexton started off a
four goal second period outburst for the Snipers as he raced
past a defender for the puck and scored on the breakaway.
Sexton also collected an
assist on the night for a total of two points.
Number 27 on the
Snipers, Pat Smith,
first stole the puck in the Ice Storm's defensive zone, then he
went in all alone on a breakaway and finished it off with an
excellent forehand to backhand deke goal.
Alex Fraser scored the
Snipers game winner at the 6:04 mark of the middle period and
also picked up an assist on
Jamie Sexton's goal.
Team mate
Jeremy Rogers contributed
a pair of points as well with a big goal and one helper. Snipers
defenceman
Trent Ranahan notched an
assist in the match.
Nick Oriold was the Ice
Storm player of the game as he had a great two goal night and
now has four points in just his last two games.
The CAHL 2006-2007 Top Defenceman Trophy winner
Martin Robichaud
finished the game with a strong two assist performance. Team
mate
Martin Bownes assisted
on
Oriold 's second goal of
the match.
Ice Storm
Mike Cook rifled in an
awesome top shelf wrist shot in the second period for a
shorthanded goal however what made this even more incredible was
that his team was actually down two men during a five on three
situation.
Goalie
Mark Cole made some big
saves for the Ice Storm especially his excellent butterfly save
on a breakaway in the first period.

Ice Storm on Tuesday, July 3

Brandon Gramlich had
an outstanding five point night to led the
Saskatchewan Potters to a Tuesday night victory versus the
Ice Storm.
Career 2.23 points per game scorer
Chad Cox notched five huge
points for the Potters as well.
Greg Bergeron and
Dave Maskwa were close
behind with four great points apiece.
Saskatchewan Potter Scott Roy
flew down the right wing and using his long reach made a great
forehand to backhand deke in one smooth motion to score his
second goal of the game in the first period.
Roy picked up two assists as
well for a total of four points.
Potter
Tyler Bohn had a thee point
performance while team mate
Sean Appleton contributed
a pair of assists.
Potters goalie
Thomas Waters made an
excellent glove grab off a close range backhand shot in the
middle period and completed the match with a total of 30 saves
for the win.
The Ice Storm player of the game
Shaughn McAuliffe
displayed his great hand eye coordination on a tremendous play
in the first period.
McAuliffe first
intercepted a pass which sent the puck flying into mid air. Next
he gloved the puck and dropped it by his stick blade.
McAuliffe then
finished the play by going in all alone and scoring on a
breakaway.
McAuliffe scored
twice more to finish with a hat trick and also assisted on his
team's first goal for an awesome four point night.
Fellow Ice storm
Patrick Lauzon was
fantastic as well as he scored a natural hat trick in the final
period in addition to an assist in the middle period for a total
of four points.
Chris Sawchuk,
Kyle Myden,
Jason Petelski, and
Nick Oriold all had big
two point efforts while
Joe Sims contributed an
assist on the night.
Mark Cole made a huge
butterfly save on a breakaway in the second period and turned
aside a total of 32 shots in the game.

Blades of Steel on Monday, June 25

The
Ice Storm versus
Blades of Steel Monday night
match up was a battle of the special teams as all six goals
between both teams were either power play or shorthanded
markers.
Andrew Smyth and
Shawn Gallahger
got the Blades of Steel on the scoreboard first with a pair of
power play goals to gain a 2-0 lead.
Jamie Doucette
contributed an assist on
Gallahger 's goal
while Gallahger
assisted on
Smyth's goal.
Ice Storm
Shaughn McAuliffe
scored a crucial last minute power play goal in the first period
to inject his team with momentum as they have been out shot 11-6
and down on the scoreboard.
Justin Heffner and
Brian Sawchuk notched
assists on the play.
Joe Sims scored an early
power play goal for the Ice Storm just 47 seconds into the
middle period to tie up the game at two apiece.
Ice Storm
Chris Sawchuk got the
lead for his team with a great backhand shot off a tape to tape
cross ice pass from team mate
Mike Cook.
Shaughn McAuliffe
wasn't finished yet for the Ice Storm and would score one more
huge goal on a short handed breakaway to take an all important
two goal lead.
Both goalies didn't
allow anymore pucks to get past them the rest of the night and
the Ice Storm left the arena with a huge come from behind win as
they started the game down 2-0 but scored four unanswered goals
for a 4-2 victory.
The Ice Storm player of the game, goalie Steve Welch, slid
effortlessly across his crease from his left to right to stifle
a one timed shot during a penalty kill situation in the first
period. Welch continued his awesome performance between the
pipes to finish with 28 saves on 30 shots that were fired his
way for an excellent .933 save percentage.
Shawn Gallahger
was the Blades of Steel player of the game as he scored a goal
and assisted on another for a big two point night.
Blades of Steel
goaltender
Jennifer Lynn Hanby
made some memorable saves such as when she stopped a huge chance
early in the first period with her goal stick paddle down along
the ice. Later in the same period she made a great glove grab
off a close in shot from her right face off circle.

Ice Storm vs.
Extreme on Monday, June 18

The match up between the Ice Storm
and
Extreme was a goal scorers' dream as a combined total of 15
pucks hit the back of the goal nets. The Ice Storm were down 8-6
with still almost three minutes to go in the game when Danny James
of the Extreme added an insurance goal at 2:46 to increase their
margin to three goals for the win.
Matt Brodie was the
Extreme player of the game as he scored a hat trick and an
assist for a four point night. Team mate David Shierman made a
sensational play as he went coast to coast and fired in a top
shelf back hand goal to finish it off. Shierman also had four
assists for a great five point game. Isaac Reid and Kris Pickering
each contributed a pair of goals.
Extreme goalie Ian
Brunton stopped a breakaway in the first period and went on to
collect a total of 27 saves for the victory.
Patrick Lauzon topped
all Ice Storm players with an excellent four point player of the
game effort as he reeled in a pair of goals and assists.
Derek Douglas also
scored twice for the Ice Storm while
Jason Petelski and
Chris Sawchuk each
launched in one. Nick Oriold,
Martin Robichaud, and
Mike Cook contributed an
assist apiece.
Ice Storm goaltender
Mark Cole finished the game
with 35 saves which included stopping 16 of the 17 shots aimed
his way in the middle period.
Cole started off the second
period with two big saves in just the first minute alone as he
made a pad stop which was followed up by a glove save just
moments later.

The
Tornadoes were defeated
5-4 in a
close battle to end by the
Ice Storm.
Kenton Lefthand was
the player of the game for the Tornadoes as he led the offence
with two points. Lefthand
notched an assist and scored a huge power play goal to make it a
one goal affair with 5:23 left in the final period.
Tommy McIvor,
Joe Nitychoruk, and
Ryan
Ewasiuk
each launched in a goal for the Tornadoes as well.
Brad MacDonald,
Patricio
Inostroza,
Robert MacInnis, and
Jamie Ryan all contributed
an assist apiece. Tornadoes goalie
Rob O'Donnell turned
away 23 shots over the three periods which included some big
stops from short range.
The Ice Storm player of the game,
Mike Cook, had a three point
effort with a goal and two assists.
Cook now has a combined
total of nine points in just his first two games of the season.
Patrick Lauzon
continued his torrid better than one goal per game pace from
last season as he fired in a pair of pucks, both in the first
period.
With 5:15 showing on
the score clock in the second period Ice Storm
Nick Oriold went in on a
short handed breakaway and made a super smooth forehand to
backhand deke for the colossal goal which gave his team a 4-3
lead headed into the third period.
Chris Sawchuk scored the
eventual game winner for the Ice Storm on a power play early in
the final frame.
Sawchuk had an assist
earlier in the match as well to finish with a two point night.
Carlo DeLuca also
contributed an assist.

save in the second period on a huge short handed breakaway
chance by the Tornadoes sniper

already had three goals in just the first two games.

finished with 18 stops.

buried a goal and an assist while

of goals.
Travis Lowe launched in
his team's last goal of the night at the 4:24 mark of the final
