Weeknight Division II:

CAHL Cup Champion Ice Storm

Silver Medal Winning Rush Roofing Rockets

The CAHL Cup Championship featured the .600 strong 17-11-2 Rush Roofing Rockets against the Ice Storm who had a successful regular season as well with a .567 year at a 15-11-4 clip.

The 0-0 score that started the game remained until halfway into the first period when Jason Petelski broke the scoreless tension for Ice Storm with assists coming from Brian Sawchuk and Brads Moes. Chris Sawchuk added another score for their team with some help from Kevin Koskie.

The Rush Roofing Rockets were down 2-0 but were far from out as the clocked drifted down towards the end of the opening frame Shawn Bulger and Derek Plug scored just 11 seconds apart to the thunderous roar of their appreciative fans. Shawn Bulger's goal hit the back of the mesh with 15 seconds left while Derek Plug's marker was with just four ticks before the horn.

The Rockets goalie Phil Bonk kept the game tied with some key stops until Richard Simpson regained the lead for the Ice Storm at 10:40 of the middle period with Kevin Koskie contributing the assist, already his second of the match.

Later in the second period, while on a Rockets powerplay as they was gunning for the equalizer, Patrick Lauzon of the Ice Storm broke free for the breakaway and scored a crucial short handed goal to give his team a two goal cushion.

The next goal came early in the final period, this time it was for the Rockets as Cam Ferguson fired in a perfect one timed shot on a great pass from Louis Brandsma. Curt Brandsma tallied the other assist of the important goal which pulled the Rockets to within just one.

The Rockets continued to keep pressure on the Ice Storm however goalie Derrick Moes was up to the task and was not letting anything else get by him. The effort did not go unnoticed by the Ice Storm as they added two more goals with one at the 7:01 mark and another at 6:27 to give themselves and their goalie a three goal barrier.

The Ice Storm held on to their lead until the final buzzer sounded to signal their victory. The Rockets were awarded with CAHL Silver Medals to cap off their great season. The Ice Storm were given the CAHL Gold Medals and their goalie Derrick Moes was awarded the CAHL Playoff MVP Trophy for his great performance as he kept the Rockets at bay with saves such as when he slid across the crease to glove a point blank shot on a cross ice pass.

The Ice Storm captain Nick Oriold was presented with the CAHL Cup Trophy as his team celebrated and skated off the ice as champions.
