The puck dropped at
9:05PM on Sunday night for the CAHL Cup Championship between the Jets
and
Pylons. The Pylons all-star goalie
Martin Gregoire set the
tone early with a great butterfly save on the Jets top scorer
Chris
Macgregor
as he broke in on a two on one break. At the other end of the
ice the Jets goaltender Geoff
Hwang let his presence be known as he turned away multiple
short range scoring chances from the Pylons as his team was
being out shot by more than a two to one margin.
At the 6:15 mark, the
Jets 1.48 points per game scorer
Don Sheriff set his sights on
the back of the net which was just a mere few feet away as he
took a shot from just outside the crease area, however
Martin Gregoire
responded with a tremendous save.
Late in the period,
Jason Wroblewsky, the
Jets captain flew past the Pylons defenders for a breakaway and
took a big slap shot however once again
Martin Gregoire came up
with the great stop. The shots through the first period were
17-7 with the Pylons holding the upper hand. The score was still
the same as when the game started though, 0-0, as both goalies
were simply unbeatable.
Jets all-star
defenceman
Ryan Lloyd was at the top of
his game as he made an incredible poke check from behind
knocking away the puck from the ever dangerous Pylons top scorer
and captain
David Hughes who was a step
ahead and all alone facing the Jets net. On a power play
opportunity later in the second period,
Denny Englehart of the
Jets, made two amazing dekes as he went around a couple of Pylon
players to meet face to face with the Pylons last line of
defence, Martin Gregoire,
who then made an awesome butterfly save stopping the play cold.
A great shorthanded chance arose when the Pylons goal per game
scorer
Brian Abildgaard skated
in unattended towards the Jets net, however
Geoff Hwang thwarted away the
puck with a perfect poke check.
The Jets
Denny Englehart had
another great chance in the final period as he took a shot from
point blank range only to be turned back by an excellent save
from Martin Gregoire.
However Denny Englehart
was relentless and on the rebound he once again took a wrist
shot which sent the puck flying off his blade and into the back
of the mesh. The Jets erupted with excitement as it was the
first goal of the game with only 7:07 left showing on the score
clock.
The pressure on both teams mounted even further however
Martin Gregoire's
response was yet another great save. This time it was a colossal
glove grab on a shot from 39 goal scorer
Jason Wroblewsky at the
6:02 mark to keep it a one goal game. The Pylons continued
taking shots as the clock ticked away towards zero.
Geoff Hwang never wavered
between the pipes, not allowing anything to get past him. Even
as
the Pylons
David Hughes skated out
into the slot and took a big wrist shot,
Geoff Hwang swung out his
right pad to knock the puck out of harms way.
The final seconds ran
down to the joy of the Jets as they celebrated their CAHL Cup
Championship victory. Jets captain
Jason Wroblewsky was
presented with the CAHL Cup and the Pylons were awarded the CAHL
Silver Medals.
Geoff Hwang was awarded the
CAHL 2006-2007 Playoff MVP Trophy as he was unbelievable in
stopping all 37 shots for the shutout CAHL Cup Championship win.
Martin Gregoire was the
player of the game for the Pylons as he finished with 22 saves
on 23 shots for an incredible .957 save percentage.

Weekend
Division Playoffs:
Pylons vs.
Sofa Kings on Friday, May 11th
![](CAHLmay1107p-penaltyshotsave.jpg)
The first place
Pylons were up against the sixth seeded Sofa
Kings in the third playoff game of the night.
Jason Wist, the Sofa Kings
goaltender, was amazing as he stopped shot after shot from the
Pylons.
Wist made an early great
pad save off a short range shot which was followed up by slap
shot that he deflected over the glass and into the safety mesh
for a whistle. He later turned back a point blank one timer, one
of the many close range shots he had to face. The Pylons didn't
score until
Kevin Donovan
made a perfect cross ice pass to all-star captain
David Hughes for the point
blank one timed goal. The shots were 14-4 for the Pylons through
the first period, however, due to
Jason Wist
the score was only 1-0.
The Pylons continued to hold the shot advantage in the middle
period but Jason Wist
continued to keep his team in the game.
Wist showed his puck
handling skills as well when he was playing the puck along the
boards and spun around a full 360 degrees to escape an attacking
Pylon player from stealing the puck.
Kevin Donovan got the
Pylons their second goal of the night off an excellent wrist
shot from the slot area. With just 15 seconds remaining in the
period
the Pylons
defenceman Martin Robichaud
using his great speed
got past the Sofa Kings defenders for a breakaway, however,
Jason Wist responded with
a terrific pad stack save.
The Sofa Kings were
kept even busier in the final period as the Pylons averaged 1.5
shots per minute.
Jason Wist
once again answered the call and made a huge pad save off a
booming slap shot which was taken just from the bottom of the
face off circle. All-star
Cole Piechotta
broke through a couple of Pylon defenders to score a great
unassisted goal to make it a 2-1 game with just 4:07 showing on
the score clock.
The Pylons worked to regain their two goal lead however
Jason Wist
was uncooperative and
not only stopped a cross crease one timed shot but showed nerves
of steel as he also stopped a penalty shot with just 1:34 left
in game to give his team a "one shot, one goal" chance. The Sofa
Kings gave it their all however the Pylons eventually won the
game 2-1.
Jason Wist was the Sofa
Kings player of the game for his spectacular performance as he
stopped 37 of the 39 pucks aimed his way for an incredible .949
save percentage.
Kevin Donovan was the
Pylons player of the game as he was in on both goals, scoring
the game winner and assisting on the other. Pylons goalie,
Martin Gregoire,
finished with eight saves which included a big paddle down save
in the first period off a point blank shot.

Weekend Division All-Star goaltender
Geoff Hwang's

was a sign of the many more outstanding saves to come in his
second half of the game.
Hwang
denied a one timed shot from the slot within the first minute of
the third period, turned aside another one timed shot shortly
after, which was later followed up by a great point blank glove
save.

the corner and roofed the puck at the 1:22 mark. Point per game
defenceman, Rocket Kurt Bransma,
contributed two assists, one in each of the first two periods.
Shocker Scott Ellard, the
Weekday Division leading All-Star goalie, turned aside 16 shots
including a terrific save even without the use of his arm or
goal stick as arm was behind his back while his stick got caught
in the net during a scramble around the net. Shamrock goaltender
Ryan Steel, who finished
the Weekday Division regular season with the most wins and the
second best goals against average, played the second half and
stopped a trio of breakaways in just the third period alone
including one with a perfectly timed poke check.
Weekend Division
All-Star,
Brian Abildgaard,
continued his torrid goal per game pace during the regular
season as he led the offence with a pair of goals and an assist
for a great three point night. Jets sniper and second top scorer
in the entire division,
Jason Wroblewsky, scored
a goal early in the third period.
Number 19,
Piechotta of the Sofa
Kings fired in a power play goal on a rare all-star penalty with
just over five minutes remaining in the game.
Jets
Chris
Macgregor,
the outstanding leading scorer of the Weekend Division,
contributed an assist on
Piechotta's power play
marker.
The Dragons top scorer Daniel Leblanc
assisted on

and one of

goals as well for two points on the night.
David Hughes, the Pylons
number one scorer and the Pylons 1.19 points per game defenceman
Trevor Hughes,
both assisted Pylon teammate
Brian Abildgaard's
first goal of the game.
All-star goaltender
Martin Gregoire led the
Weekend Division in the regular season with an astonishing 2.07
goals against average and displayed his skills once again during
the first period with a great breakaway save. However an even
better moment came later when he made a fantastic glove grab on
a two on one break.
