CAHL 2007 Top
Female Goalie Trophy Winner
The
Blades of Steel goaltender
Jennifer Handby
was awarded the CAHL 2007 Top Female Goalie Trophy for her
awesome season as she had the leading female goals against average.

Steel vs. Extreme on Wednesday, August 29
Player of the game
Dallas Bassen was the key
for the
Extreme as he rifled in four goals and an assist in the
Wednesday night playoff match up and eventual
7-5 victory against the
Blades of Steel.
Fellow Extreme Kris Pickering
was next in line with a three point night.
David Shierman and
Matt Brodie both scored a
goal and an assist apiece. Team mates
Danny Janes,
Todd Bassen and
Troy Ear each helped set up a
goal apiece.
Between the pipes
Extreme goalie
Ian Brunton made some
excellent stops for the playoff win.
The
Blades of Steel player of the game goaltender
Jennifer Handby
was great as she denied some big scoring chances from the ever
dangerous Extreme team throughout the contest.
Trevor Reynolds
led the Blades of Steel offence with a pair of goals.
Shawn Gallahger,
Paul Reardigan and
Adam Snelling were
the other three scorers on the night.
Bret Schott had two
set ups while team captain
James Werner,
Shawn Henry,
Jeremy Raymaker,
and
Conrad Boychuk
each contributed one assist.

Blades of
Steel vs. Ice Storm on Monday, August 20
Player of the game
Graeme Kozin buried
two
pucks and set up a pair of his team mates to propel the
Blades of Steel to a victory
over the
Ice Storm.
Fellow Blades of Steel
Shawn Gallahger
played a big part in the triumph as well as he launched in a
couple of goals.
Adam Snelling and
Brad Roy both had
great three point results for the Blades of Steel.
Dan Pietrzak,
James Werner, and
Sheldon Harris
each claimed two big points apiece.
Paul Reardigan
contributed an assist on the night.
Blades of Steel forward
Trevor Reynolds
scored great two on one goal after receiving a perfect feed from
Jeremy Raymaker early
in the second period. Goaltender
Jennifer Lynn
Hanby only permitted a
couple pucks to get past her for the win.
The Ice Storm offence featured their long range heavy artillery
as the player of the game
Shaughn McAuliffe
and the CAHL 2006-2007 Top Defenceman Trophy winner
Martin Robichaud
unleashed their cannon like slap shots to score the goals for
their team. Nick Oriold
and
Mike Cook provided the
assists.
Ice Storm goaltender Mark Cole
denied 28 shots which included a breakaway in each of the first
two periods and even a two man breakaway in the final period.

Snipers vs.
Blades of Steel on Friday, August 17
The
Blades of Steel defeated the
Snipers on Friday and were led by the player of the game Brad Roy
who hit the back of the net an incredible total of five times.
Roy also assisted three others for a mammoth total of eight
points.
Captain
James Werner,
Graeme Kozin, and
Shawn Gallahger
all had towering games for the Blades of Steel as well.
James Werner
had total of five points while
Graeme Kozin and
Shawn Gallahger
notched four points apiece.
Sheldon Harris
contributed three points for the Blades of Steel.
Shawn Henry,
Paul Reardigan,
Adam Snelling,
Bret Schott,
and Jeremy Raymaker
each
notched a pair of points. Goalie
Jennifer Lynn
Hanby made some big saves for the win.
Jeff Stevenson rifled in
a pair of goals and an assist for the Snipers' player of the
game honours.
Pat Smith also had a great
two goal match while
Jeremy Rogers had a pair
of assists.
Andrew Banister and
Dan Kopcinovic each
collected an assist in the contest.
Snipers goaltender
Josh Wildey thwarted an
enormous amount of scoring chances as he was faced with an
immense number of black discs fired his way throughout the three
periods.

Blades of
Extreme vs. Extreme on Friday, August 10
Mark Romaniuk was the
Extreme player of the as he had a top flight three goal and
one assist display to propel his team to a
7-5 win against the
Blades of Steel.
Extreme team mate
Brad Kerr was great too as
he tallied a total of six points on the strength of two goals
and four assists.
Dallas Bassen scored
early in the middle period and assisted on another Extreme goal
just over three minutes later to finish with a pair of points.
Danny James also scored
while
Todd Bassen contributed an
assist.
Extreme goalie Aaron
made a total of 26 saves which included stopping all of the 14
shots which were aimed his way in the second frame.
Player of the game Graeme Kozin
had a stunning four goal match for the Blades of Steel.
Sheldon Harris
notched a stellar three assists. Brad Roy also scored while
Dan Pietrzak,
Jeremy Raymaker, Paul Reardigan
each set up a goal.
Jennifer Lynn
Hanby made some big stops for the Blades of Steel and
totaled 19 saves on the night.

Blades of
Steel vs. Rockets on Wednesday, August 1
The Wednesday night match up was a clash of the goalies as the
Blades of Steel
faced off against the
Rockets.
The two goalies denied
a combined 97.5% of the shots as they turned aside the shooters
all night.
Jennifer Lynn
Hanby made a brilliant save on a short range shot from the
dangerous Rockets elite scorer
Scott Bouwman during a
penalty kill situation in the middle period.
Scott Bouwman made a
tremendous save himself as he blocked a clear cut point blank
shot earlier in the game during the first frame.
Between the other pipes the Rockets goalie
Alex Nutma responded to a
great shorthanded breakaway chance with a fantastic save to keep
the score at 0-0 in the second period.
It was not until there
was just over five minutes remaining in the game when the
Rockets all-star defenceman
Kurt Bransma came through
in the clutch to score the go ahead goal.
Scott Bouwman and
Scott Bergen assisted on
the play.
The Rockets held back
the final push from the Blades of Steel to go home with the
dramatic 1-0 victory.
Jennifer Lynn
Hanby was the Blades of Steel player of the game for her
excellent performance as she finished with a .947 save
percentage.
The Rockets player of the game Alex Nutma
had the superb shutout win and is now the overall leader in both
goals against average (2.67) and save percentage (.890).

Blades of
Steel vs. Potters on Tuesday, July 24
The
Potters are on fire and have extended
their searing hot winning streak to seven games. This time it
was a 4-3 victory on Tuesday
night against the Blades of Steel.
The overall leading goaltender and player of the game
Thomas Waters remains
unbeaten this season. Waters
thwarted a total of 21 shots rifled his way which included a
razor sharp save on a breakaway in the third period to keep the
lead for the Potters.
Potter
Dustyn Auramenko wired
in a slap shot to get his team on the score board first at the
12:55 mark of the opening period. He was not finished yet and
ended up scoring once more to lead the potent Potter offence
with a great two goal match.
Auramenko has been
scoring at a near goal per game clip with five goals and seven
assists in just six games.
Scott Roy also scored for the
Potters and is now tied with
Matt Brodie from the
Extreme for the most overall goals. Team mate
Brandon Gramlich hit
the back of the net as well and has moved into sole possession
of fifth place in the league scoring race.
Potter captain
Greg Bergeron set up
Dustyn Auramenko's
second goal of the night to collect an amazing 12th assist in
just his eighth game.
Bergeron
is only two assists away from the overall assist leaders
David Shierman, from the
Extreme, and
Potter team mate and last season's captain
Brendan Engdahl.
Late in the middle period the Blades of Steel top team scorer
Shawn Gallahger
made an incredible series of plays as he first stole the puck,
then sped past a defender, and finally roofed the puck with a
masterfully aimed
shot.
Shawn Gallahger
added one more goal to cap off his strong two goal player of the
game performance.

James Werner
and Graeme Kozin
each contributed an assist on
Shawn Gallahger's
second goal of the night.
Blades of Steel goalie
Jennifer Lynn
Hanby jumped right back into the top goalie leaders and is
presently tied for third place.

Blades of
Steel vs. Extreme on Monday, July 16
Goalie
Ian Brunton was the player
of the game for the
Extreme as they defeated the Blades of Steel
on Monday night's match up.
Ian Brunton finished with
22 stops and made a tremendous pad save on a short range shot
which was set up from a cross ice pass during a penalty kill
situation for his team.
The Extreme offence
was a total team affair as
Shadoe Stoodley,
Matt Brodie,
Mitch Brodie, and
Troy Ear each fired in a pair
of goals. Stoodley
picked up a couple of assists as well for an incredible four
point night.
Isaac Reid also scored and
collected an assist for a two point effort.
Rance Goulter,
Danny James, and
Kris Pickering
contributed two assists apiece while
David Shierman notched a
single assist.
Blades of Steel captain
James Werner led his
team with an outstanding four point player of the game
performance as he scored a goal and set up three of his team
mates.
Brad Roy had a great
three point match with a goal and a pair of assists for the
Blades of Steel.
Chris Hill and
Trevor Reynolds
rifled in a goal apiece. Hill
collected an assist as well for a two point effort.
Conrad Boychuk
collected an assist on the night.

Hanby made a couple of fantastic saves as she stopped the
initial and rebound chance on a breakaway during some four on
four action late in the middle period.

Hazards vs.
Blades of Steel on Friday, July 13
Player of the game
J.R. Mitdital was the
difference as he scored an awesome hat trick, which included the
game winning goal, for the
Hazards
on Friday in a 6-5 win
against the
Blades of Steel.
Josh Horning also had a
great three point game for the Hazards as he scored a goal and
two assists.
Steve Runcie and
Taylor MacDonald were
the other two goal scorer for the Hazards as they fired in a
goal apiece.
Hazards goalie
Warner Johnston won his
second straight start and made 20 saves which included stopping
10 out of 10 in the final period to preserve the one goal lead
for the victory.
The Blades of Steel player of the game
Jamie Doucette led
his team with a top notch two goal and one assist performance.
Graeme Kozin,
Chris Hill, and
Conrad Boychuk
also scored.
Chris Hill completed
the game with a pair of points as he picked up an assist as
well.

made some nice stops for the Blades of Steel as he turned aside

Pylons vs.
Blades of Steel on Friday, July 6
Graeme Kozin led his
Blades of Steel to a Friday
evening win over the Pylons as he
topped all players with a fantastic five point player of the
game
performance.
Kozin scored the
game winning goal, contributed three assists, and fired in one
more goal in the final period before all was said and done.
Blades of Steel forwards
Sheldon Harris,
James Werner, and
Shawn Gallahger
were all on fire as well with four point nights.
Harris hit the
back of the net twice to go along with a couple of helpers while
Werner and
Gallahger each
scored one goal and three assists.
Dan Pietrzak
had a great three point night for the Blades of Steel while
Chris Hill rifled in a
pair of goals.
Shawn Henry,
Conrad Boychuk,
and
Andrew Smyth
contributed an assist apiece.
Blades of Steel
goalie
Jennifer Lynn
Hanby contributed an assist, won her fourth game in five
starts, and also maintained her top three overall position
among goals against
average leaders.
Kevin Donovan was the
Pylons player of the game as he finished with a great three
point effort with one goal and a pair of assists.
Jim Madden and
Brendan Waters scored two
goals apiece for the Pylons. Team mate
Dan Wahl had a couple of
assists while
Shawn Bellingham
collected one helper.
Pylons goaltender
David Hughes was already
down along the ice and still managed to make a colossal glove
grab with his outstretched arm on a point blank shot during the
first period.
Hughes also had an assist
on
Kevin Donovan's goal.

Ice Storm vs.
Blades of Steel on Monday, June 25
The
Ice Storm versus
Blades of Steel Monday night
match up was a battle of the special teams as all six goals
between both teams were either power play or shorthanded
markers.
Andrew Smyth and
Shawn Gallahger
got the Blades of Steel on the scoreboard first with a pair of
power play goals to gain a 2-0 lead.
Jamie Doucette
contributed an assist on
Gallahger 's goal
while Gallahger
assisted on
Smyth's goal.
Ice Storm
Shaughn McAuliffe
scored a crucial last minute power play goal in the first period
to inject his team with momentum as they have been out shot 11-6
and down on the scoreboard.
Justin Heffner and
Brian Sawchuk notched
assists on the play.
Joe Sims scored an early
power play goal for the Ice Storm just 47 seconds into the
middle period to tie up the game at two apiece.
Ice Storm
Chris Sawchuk got the
lead for his team with a great backhand shot off a tape to tape
cross ice pass from team mate
Mike Cook.
Shaughn McAuliffe
wasn't finished yet for the Ice Storm and would score one more
huge goal on a short handed breakaway to take an all important
two goal lead.
Both goalies didn't
allow anymore pucks to get past them the rest of the night and
the Ice Storm left the arena with a huge come from behind win as
they started the game down 2-0 but scored four unanswered goals
for a 4-2 victory.
The Ice Storm player of the game, goalie Steve Welch, slid
effortlessly across his crease from his left to right to stifle
a one timed shot during a penalty kill situation in the first
period. Welch continued his awesome performance between the
pipes to finish with 28 saves on 30 shots that were fired his
way for an excellent .933 save percentage.
Shawn Gallahger
was the Blades of Steel player of the game as he scored a goal
and assisted on another for a big two point night.

made some memorable saves such as when she stopped a huge chance
early in the first period with her goal stick paddle down along
the ice. Later in the same period she made a great glove grab
off a close in shot from her right face off circle.

Steel vs. Rockets on Wednesday, June 20
Goaltender and player of the game
Jennifer Lynn
Hanby finished with a potent .905 save percentage as she
stopped 19 of the 21 pucks fired her way to lead the
Blades of Steel to a
4-2 victory over the
Rockets.
Graeme Kozin
got the Blades of Steel on the score board first with his fourth
goal in just two games. Blades of Steel
Brad Roy
rifled in
a great short handed breakaway goal late in the initial period.
Team mate
Shawn Gallahger
added another short hander and the eventual game winner for the
Blades of Steel early in the middle frame. Later in the same
period Trevor Reynolds
launched a howitzer right at the top corner for his team's
fourth goal of the game.
Conrad Boychuk,
Chris Hill, and
Will Bernier each
contributed an assist.
Steve Brandon
was the player of the game for the Rockets for the third
straight match as he scored his team's second goal of the night
and was a threat throughout the three periods.
Steven Havinga notched
his team's first goal which was assisted by
Scott Bouwman.
Goalie
Phil Bonk
completed the game with some big stops such as his saves during
an intense scramble around his crease in the middle period.

Snipers vs.
Blades of Steel on Tuesday, June 12
Paul Reardigan ignited
the offence for the
Blades of Steel with a great
forehand to backhand move on a breakaway goal midway through the
opening period. The Blades of Steel never looked back and
continued on to defeat the
Snipers.
Jamie Doucette was
the Blades of Steel player of the game as he collected a hat
trick with a pair of goals in the first frame and another goal
in the third.
Paul Reardigan scored
once more in the late in the second period to finish with two
goals and an assist.
Blades of Steel defenceman
Shawn Henry racked up
a pair of goals as well while
Sheldon Harris,
Trevor Reynolds,
and
Chris Hill each rifled
in one goal apiece.
Chris Hill not only
scored a goal but also had three assists for an excellent four
point night. Team mate

completed the match with four points too as he set up a total of
four goals. Blades of Steel captain

Hanby only had one puck get by her all night and finished
with some great stops such as the two consecutive awesome point
blank saves during a two man penalty kill situation in the
second period.

Josh Wildey was the
Snipers player of the game as he denied 34 shots which
included some stellar saves such as during the first period when
he made a big blocker save off a booming slap shot that was
later followed up by a great glove grab off a wrist shot from
the face off circle. Early in the second period he faced a point
blank one timed shot opportunity and simply stoned the threat
with an excellent pad save using his right leg.
Sniper
Jamie Sexton wired in a
slap shot on a power play during the second period from the top
of the right face off circle and now has 23 goals in just his
last 25 games.

Steel vs. Potters on Tuesday, June 5

Dan Pietrzak,
Graeme Kozin, and
Sheldon Harris
each fired in a goal apiece during the first period to give the
Blades of Steel an early 3-0
lead against the
Potters.
Potter
Kevin Demyon launched a
big slap shot from the point which sent the puck through a maze
of skates and into the back of the mesh to put his team on the
score board just 30 seconds into the second frame.
Blades of Steel
defenceman
Adam Snelling
regained his team's three goal lead shortly after by scoring at
the 10:01 mark.
Brandon Gramlich
continued the comeback effort for the Potters by scoring a great
breakaway deke goal to knock the deficit back down to two
scores.
Potters goalie Daniel
Soucy faced a one timed shot from point blank range which was
set up from a pass from the side of the net and he responded
with an incredible pad save.
Graeme Kozin later
rifled in his second goal of the game at 5:26 to once again give
the Blades of Steel a healthy three goal cushion.
The Potters never backed down and
Kirk Ringuette scored in
the next goal of the game to reduce the margin to 5-3.
Blades of Steel
goaltender
Jennifer Lynn Hanby made a tremendous save against a wrist
shot on wide open chance from the slot to keep her team's two
goal lead headed in the the final period.
Shawn Gallahger
made it a 6-3 match for the Blades of Steel with a goal less
than two minutes into the third frame.
Chad Cox replied for the
Potters with his second point of the night to give his team a
two goal comeback chance.
The Potters
pressed for the next goal however
Jennifer Lynn
Hanby was up to the task and didn't let anything get past
her including a great breakaway save.
In addition to a
key goal, Blades of Steel forward
Shawn Gallahger,
made a colossal shot block as well during the last minute of
play which also resulted in getting the puck out of their
defensive zone as the Potters were swarming around the net.
With 18 seconds
showing on the clock
Graeme Kozin flew down the right wing and scored his third
and hat trick goal of the game on a great back hand top corner
shot which increased his team's advantage to three goals.
The final
seconds ticked away and the Blades of Steel went home with an
exciting 7-4 victory.
Graeme Kozin was the Blades of Steel player of the game for
his excellent hat trick which included the game winner and a
short handed goal.
Chad Cox was the Potters
player of the game as he finished with a big two point effort on
the strength of one goal and one assist.
